A slot is a position in an organization or a machine where a particular item can be placed. Typically, slots are small and shallow but can be a variety of sizes, shapes, or depths. Slots can be used to hold things such as coins, cards, or other items. They can also be used to connect items or people. For example, a computer can use a slot to connect a hard drive and power supply.
Slots can be mapped to values in a conversation so that when that value is spoken, the bot will understand and process it. To do this, click Add Slot Type from the Slots page and select Regular Expression (regex or regex). A regex pattern is used to map a slot to a value in an utterance. For example, if you want your bot to match flight codes for your travel bot, enter the regex pattern:
